Residence | Amba Sadan

The project is about the restoration of a 65-year-old ground floor apartment in the heart of Ahmedabad. The existing space wasn’t enough and the building had to be extended, and the services had to be restored. The apartment shares sidewalls on both sides, restricting the scope of ventilation to the front and the back. The approach was to design playful spaces, creating openings confined within the apartment and a fun circulation pattern for kids. Intervention The key intervention was to re-orient spaces looking at the nature of the spaces and functionality, adding a volumetric insert to extend the area. To balance the existing heavy built form, we tried to puncture and articulate the spaces with elemental details and expressions.
